Early Intervention

Children with Down syndrome experience developmental delays due to congenital chromosomal abnormalities. Receiving early rehabilitation and training across various domains significantly stimulates their growth and development. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 6% of children worldwide experience developmental delays. However, in Taiwan, only about 2% of children with developmental delays are reported, indicating limited parental awareness or reluctance to acknowledge and address the issue. The Down Syndrome Foundation R.O.C. actively promotes early intervention by organizing developmental screening activities to identify children with delays and offering various therapeutic services. These include institutional daytime services, on-site therapy in rural areas, and mobile in-home services to meet the diverse needs of families, especially in remote areas where access to information is limited. Through these efforts, the Foundation aims to enhance parents' understanding of developmental delays and early intervention, ensuring children do not miss the critical window for effective therapy.

Service Recipients
The program primarily targets children aged 0 to 6 years who exhibit developmental delays or disabilities.
Service Model
Based on the professional assessments of early intervention resource centers, services are tailored to the individual needs of children and families, considering their location, circumstances, and specific requirements. The Foundation provides comprehensive professional support through a variety of service formats.
Ai-Jia Development Center: Offers daytime care for preschool children with disabilities or developmental delays, alongside parenting education, developmental consultation, and training in daily life skills for children with disabilities.
New Taipei City Early Intervention Community Resource Center: Covers Sanchong, Luzhou, Linkou, and Bali districts, providing case management, on-site therapy, in-home therapy, and preschool readiness services.
Taoyuan Early Intervention Development Center: Provides case management, on-site therapy, in-home therapy, and professional consultations.
Sanchong-Luzhou Site: Supports families in the Sanchong and Luzhou areas requiring early intervention through community integration services and activities to strengthen local resource networks.
The first six years of a child’s life are considered the "golden" period for treatment, with the effects of one year of early intervention before age 3 being ten times greater than after age 3.
The earlier a child is identified, supported, and treated, the greater the benefit to their development. The "Early Intervention Service Program" of the Down Syndrome Foundation R.O.C. requires substantial annual funding. We need more strong and caring hands to gently hold each child’s little hand and walk forward together, step by step.

Institutional Therapy Service Program

There are children who cannot understand the world outside or respond to external stimuli.
A child who cannot crawl at one year old, cannot feed themselves with a spoon at two, or cannot express needs in simple sentences at three
may not simply be "a late bloomer."
What they truly need is your helping hand, guiding them into the golden period of early intervention.
The Early Intervention Service Program, initiated by the Down Syndrome Foundation R.O.C., aims to provide comprehensive services for children with developmental delays or at risk of delays. This program helps children overcome developmental stagnation as early as possible, reducing the chances of long-term challenges and barriers in daily life.
